So I don’t forget, the following must be accomplished tomorrow:
- Unpack. Unpack. Unpack.
- Finish filling out camp forms.
- Clean out the hell hole that is my car.
A day in and everything’s hunky dory. Tim and I got drunk on the beach last night, peed in the lake and frolicked with driftwood. Then we proceeded to get eaten alive by bugs and I burnt my leg hairs off on a fire. The night didn’t end there, oh no. We still had a forty-five minute ride home with my rather intoxicated father who has an undying love for Five Finger Death Punch and Adele. He kind of has a nice voice…
We got home to his sister having a “rager” which consisted of five little weird kids drinking a thirty rack and Goldschläger. I’m a grandma and went to sleep around midnight, woke up to Timothy’s wonderful face and him complaining about his broken toe. Now it’s time to send my mother off to Texas and avoid unpacking everything.
I’m also really fucking hungry and this lady has NO idea what food is.
Watching The Borrowers, a good idea.
Tom Felton and his foofy little hair!
What about unattractive, awkward, and… taken?

I honestly just want to laugh at every single soapbox toting kid around here sometimes. You’re going to yet again bring up your anger about the cut majors, minors, and departments? That’s fine, I would be upset too. Where you’re going wrong though? That’s not so understandable and it would help if you understood your sister class and past classes involvement in the situation.
First off, just to clear things up. They didn’t say, “Hey! Let’s cut the music, language, arts, and religion departments so that we could give more to athletics and our new business center!” No, they were dealing with what EVERY school had to deal with during the hard times we as a country were dealing with. We were in the black financially and needed to make decisions regarding which departments were most and least efficient financially. Basically, which departments were most profitable. (Yeah, it sounds bad but we live in a capitalistic society and money makes our world go round) So, they turned to the numbers. They looked at which departments had the most students, which departments retained the most students until graduation, etc. Those that were costing more to run with only two students graduating with the degree were cut.
So, if you’re looking to place blame look a little lower than the administration here at Wells. Look around you, because it was your sister class and the classes from past years who dictated which departments would lose out. I chose, he chose, and she chose. No matter what happened, someone would have lost. They had to look at the larger picture and make a decision based on that. Deciding to cut majors/minors/etc. that according to numbers weren’t highly participated in.
That doesn’t make you any less pissed off that you came here unable to major in Religion, I realize that. But instead of running your mouth about it, take the time to learn the whole story. Rather than the story some angry Senior spouted off during Rep. Council.
One last little note, it’s unfortunate to see students stigmatize the developing athletics and business programs here. We’re evolving, every college/university does it. The same classes aren’t offered here from 100 years ago, or even 50 for that matter. Why? Because times are evolving, incoming students are looking for degrees in different departments. One of the downsides of such a small school is that you can only support so many departments off of such a small student body. Most schools had business centers fifty years ago, and we’re just now catching up.
And instead of celebrating that, we’ve decided that any new business majors, or any students who created an individualized business major, is an idiot. Real nice. Instead of celebrating all of the new athletic programs that are going out and representing Wells, we bitch about them.
One thing Wells is about and one thing I make sure to emphasize whenever talking about Wells, is our sense of community. It’s literally something that IS capable of lasting throughout the shifting times. Majors will change, departments will change, but community never will. Unfortunately, by being so negative and placing blame in all the wrong places we’ve created hostility and ignorance. Two things that will do nothing but destroy one of the few things that could remain a constant on this campus. So do me and fellow Wellsians a favor, look at the big picture rather than remaining selfish and only worrying about yourself. And once you’ve done so, support each other and look past the socially constructed stigmas you’ve placed on your peers. Maybe then you’d have an experience here equal to mine, one that I will remember for the rest of my life and am more than appreciative of.
Grow beyond yourself and maybe then you will see.
Too many people on this campus have convinced themselves than they’re smarter than everyone else here. If that’s the case, why not challenge yourself somewhere else? Because honestly, I’m a little sick of all of you and your condescending attitudes.
How’re we supposed to build a strong community when half the campus thinks they’re too good for this school? It’s disappointing, it truly is.
This is a beautiful place and it’s unfortunate that quite a few people here don’t appreciate the people and atmosphere they’re existing in. So stop being a dickhead and leave if you’re above this place. You’re bringing down the vibes of this beautiful place and ruining it for people like me, people who honestly love this place.
Blasting my film scores to drown out your incessant chatter.
By the by, thank you for being considerate!
